get value from cell of xml table

I just downloaded the grid table to try and I have succesfully loaded the data from an xml file. I need to retrieve the value of the cell in the column when a row is selected and then execute a function, I have found articles that explain this but they use a setAction and when I use them I get an error that setAction is not a function.
