#myGrid { width: 500px;} not working

I tried to change the overall width of the entire grid using #myGrid { width: 500px;} by placing it inside my <Style> tags. Didn't work at all. Could you be a little more specific about how to use this tag? Aparantly I'm missing something...

Do you have obj.setId("myGrid"); in your code?
