grid loaded

Hello
It is taking a relatively long time to load the grid from the server. That is not my concern but only if I can access a property of the grid to know when it is fully loaded and how does it handle it before that time?

Sorry if this being a pest or obvious. Is there a way to know when the grid has completed painting itself? I am dn it from an applet and would like to dim the background until the object is fully loaded. Is there an event semaphore I can periodically check?
