Sort & row numbering

When I do a load my data I have a column for example containing A, B, C, D, E, F. The rows are numbered 1 to 6.

When i sort, the column F comes to the top as expected but the row number 6 also comes up even though this is now the first row. All the numbers change :(

Anyone got any ideas?
