Licensing FAQ

ActiveWidgets Grid library is available under commercial license and under free open source license (GPL).

When should I purchase a commercial license?

You should purchase ActiveWidgets commercial license for all types of commercial software or internal systems development except for the work released to the general public as an open source.

When I can use a free version?

You can use the free version to develop an open source software licensed under GNU General Public License (known as 'GPL').

Can I use the ActiveWidgets library to develop freeware?

No.

Can I evaluate your product using the free version?

Yes, until you begin integrating the ActiveWidgets code into your application. Starting from this point you should have a commercial license per each developer (or site license).

Do I get the same software with the free and commercial licenses?

Yes. The ActiveWidgets software distributed under GPL and commercial license is identical.

Do I have access to the source code of the commercial version?

Yes.

Can I modify or extend the source code?

Yes, you can make changes in the source code if necessary. However if you want to reduce the amount of work required to upgrade to a new version you may choose keeping the original code intact and apply the changes using the ‘runtime patch’ technique.

Can I redistribute ActiveWidgets library with my application?

Yes, commercial license allows redistribution of the original or modified ActiveWidgets library as part of the end-user application.
